Growing up in a creatively rich family, Shane is a textile artist residing in the beautiful city of Wellington, Aotearoa. A passion for design and architecture and lifelong love affair with textiles converge in her uniquely designed items for interiors.
Shane creates display cushions, table runners and wall hangings, bringing together materials that evoke pride in our unique place in the world. She incorporates organic
elements such as feathers, paua shell, flax and tapa cloth, each complementing the other, to create a work that celebrates the diversity of Aotearoa, symbolising the interweaving of cultures. Having a ‘point of difference’ underpins her philosophy. Her original and unique soft furnishings enrich interiors and stand apart from things widely available commercially.
Shane’s work aims to bring a sense of harmony when displayed. Intuitively applying the design principles of balance, rhythm and proportion, the work is harmonious to the eye. Visual rhythm is created by combining levels of texture, colour and pattern. Captivated by traditional Māori symbolism, patterns and weaving, koru feature frequently in Shane’s designs. Koru symbolise new life, growth, strength and peace and are a truly beautiful form.
