Pā o te hā Cushion in Gold and Black. Collaboration by Shane & Ariana (Ngāti Toarangatira, Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāpuhi)
Dimensions 400mm x 400mm
Pā o te hā means 'meeting of the life essence'. The pattern was inspired by a combination of kowhaiwhai (Māori painted ornamentation) Norse and Celtic knotwork designs and represents the coalescence of my Māori and Pākehā ancestry.
Original artwork is printed onto fabric using colourfast pigments and made into unique, original cushions.
Handmade in Wellington NZ
About the artist
Shane is a textile and visual artist based in the vibrant city of Te Whanganui-ā-tara / Wellington, Aotearoa / New Zealand. Her passion for design and architecture and lifelong love affair with textiles converge in uniquely designed items for interiors.
Two different collections of work sit under the umbrella of Deep Green INC : Textures of Aotearoa and Textile.Exile.
For the last 22 years Shane has created display cushions, table runners and wall hangings, bringing together materials that evoke pride in our unique place in the world. Textures of Aotearoa incorporates organic elements such as feathers, pāua shell and woven matting to create a work that celebrates the diversity of Aotearoa.
A new range, Pā o te Hā , has been designed in collaboration with her daughter Ariana (Ngāti Toarangatira, Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāpuhi).
Textile.Exile is an exploration of the processes and techniques of printing Shane’s original abstract artworks onto fabric. With an eye for proportion, balance, colour and texture, Shane crafts high-quality soft furnishings that enhance interiors and stand apart from things widely available commercially.
