The Tiki is a carved human figure. It symbolises the first born, the first man, from the creation myth in which Tane creates Tiki the first man. The Tiki is also commonly thought of as a general good luck charm.
Sitiveni Tupou was born in Tonga and moved to New Zealand at the age of 16. He has been honing his bone carving skills since the young age of 14. He has had and enjoyed the privilege of mastering this intricate art form from his father, who boasts over 40 years of experience in the craft.
Sitiveni's artistic expression extends to various materials, including beef bone, antler, and whale bone, showcasing his versatility and adaptability.
His work embodies the values of decoration, respect, skill and tradition.
