Artist Statement: For this body of work I was intrigued with the repetition of a cross symbol I’ve always been drawn to work with. In some of my series I align these marks into in a grid formation. Crosses have also featured in my work for decades. The intricate repetition of a mark / shape mirroring each other creates harmonious patterns. They reflect each other whilst slightly changing in size and stature. The multiplication of the object creates a compositional equilibrium. Essentially it’s an arrangement where each cross corresponds to the other. The marks themselves quietly denote a proportional and uniform landscape that also has an intentional balance with an unexpected irregularity.

Artist Bio: Jody Hope Gibbons is a NZ artist making contemporary art from her Matakana studio, just north of Auckland New Zealand. She has works that can be found in galleries around NZ and also has ever changing collection at her studio. Her works range from abstract painterly works to contemporary landscapes and assemblage art. Enquiries are welcome and visits to the studio are by appointment.

Born and bred in beautiful Northland, Jody Gibbons is her name originally, however she chose to try and incorporate her family name as her artist signature to honor the passing of her father, Jody Hope Gibbons.
