Whanganui was where Rob built his foundation of art, from early day’s strength in illustration showed and a passion towards having an artistic future whatever road that was to be, became evident.
Working alongside illustrators, mural artists, and the hand painted sign-smiths, Rob has spent 35 years as a commercial artist and illustrator.
Skilled in techniques of hand-lettering, illustration & art, and graphic design, he continued a professional direction in areas of these industries. Creating designs, drawings and paintings, from small magazine cartoon work to large scale murals.
Rob works with multi-media crossover compositions, including pen and ink, acrylic on canvas / board / paper, and pastel.
Adapting his techniques to the digital platforms of both printed and animation media.
His works are representations of stories and memories experienced throughout his years as an artist, surfer, musician and life’s journeys.
His artistic subjects revolve around native bird life of New Zealand, the sea and surf-scapes of Aotearoa, and the city life surrounding the villas of Kingsland, Morningside, Grey Lynn and Mt Eden.
Rob gained a Foundation Certificate of Art & Design from Whitecliffe College Of Arts And Design (1997), and a Graphic Design Major from Media Design School (2020).
Awarded a Best Design Award for his bird illustrations for Kauri Conservation installation in Central Auckland,
Also was a Finalist in the Waiheke Small Sculpture Award (2020).
He continues his work from his studio in Morningside, Auckland where the inspiration of local street life and his continued journeys to the coast, surfing, often finding inspiration for further projects
