The Manaia is an ancient mythical being and is a carrier of super natural powers. Traditionally depicted with the head of a bird, the body of a man and the tail of a fish representing sky. Earth and sea and the balance between. It is said to be the messenger between the earthly world of mortals and the
domain of the spirits illustrating the strong links the Maori people have with spirituality and the spirit world.

Hei Matau is a bone or greenstone carving in the shape of a stylised fish hook typical of Māori people of New Zealand. Which represent strength, good luck and safe travel across water

Sitiveni Tupou was born in Tonga and moved to New Zealand at the age of 16. He has been honing his bone carving skills since the young age of 14. He has had and enjoyed the privilege of mastering this intricate art form from his father, who boasts over 40 years of experience in the craft.
