Drift is an exploration of movement, capturing the fleeting beauty of leaves caught in a
breeze. Each fused glass leaf is individually shaped, creating natural variations that mirror the organic imperfections of nature. Scattered across the gallery wall, they catch and reflect light, appearing weightless despite their solidity. The installation plays with the tension between permanence and impermanence, transforming glass—often thought of as rigid and fragile—into something fluid and organic.
Isla is an artist based in New Zealand and produces work under her brand Wearing Glass. Her work has been published internationally and has been exhibited here in Aotearoa as well as in Australia, the UK and the USA. Glass is both subject and object in Isla’s work and its chemical and physical properties fascinate her. It is fluid whilst unyielding, delicate whilst impenetrable. Glass can transform from liquid to solid in an instant and still retain the illusion of movement.
