Ceramic Baubles Pīwaiwaka, Kiwi & Tui

‘Come fly with me’ features a dancing pair of pīwaiwaka | fantail carrying banners of mānuka, swooping and spreading their beautiful wings and tail feathers, rejoicing in the bountiful supply of food. Believe it or not, pīwaiwaka | fantail birds are one of Aotearoa | New Zealand’s fierce hunters! And those beautiful long tail feathers aren’t just for looks, they also help them to twist and turn very quickly during flight. Their favourites are moths, flies, spiders, wasps, beetles, and the occasional fruit. Yum, yum! We are so lucky in Aotearoa | New Zealand to have such a friendly, joyful little bird hanging around. If you want to give theses little cuties a helping hand, lets keep a close eye on our furry feline friends, and a big hi-5 to you if you can set a rat trap, or two! 

‘Walking with aroha’, features a brown kiwi taking a stroll through beautiful Aotearoa / New Zealand nativebush foliage. This kiwi is sporting a fancy mānuka flower crown and is joined by a few special native friends. Kiwi birds are a significant national icon of Aotearoa / New Zealand, equally cherished by all cultures. They represent the wonderful uniqueness of our native wildlife and the value of our natural heritage. Special native friends included are: Hura/giant centipede, pupurangi/kauri snail, kahukura/red admiral butterfly, pepe para riki/common copper butterfly, rauparaha’s copper butterfly, glade copper butterfly, pepe ao uri/common blue butterfly, janita’s tussock butterfly, mumutawa/ladybird. Native foliage icluded are: Kauri leaves, kauri male cone, disintegrated kauri female cone, kauri seeds, tānekaha leaves, spiky rimu leaves, tōtara leaves, ponga/silver fern, mānuka/tea tree flowers and leaves.

‘Home is here’, featuring a tūī bird perched on a wave of Aotearoa | New Zealand native flora, including- puawananga | clematis, kawakawa, mānuka and kōwhai. 

The tūī is one of Aotearoa’s most loved native birds. They are intelligent and boisterous with beautiful iridescent feathers. Tūī belong to the honeyeater family, meaning they feed mainly on nectar, with their down curved beaks fitting perfectly into native flowers. And did I mention they can sing?! Each tūī’s complex song is distinct to its surroundings with a colourful mix of music notes and offbeat sounds.
