Original painting on canvas by Paula Coulthard
Come on a journey with the Blue Whale, He hōhonu te moana (means 'The sea is deep', literally and metaphorically) There is a population of pygmy Blue Whales which live year round in the South Taranaki Bight.
Hand-painted artwork with house paint on cotton canvas, each piece uniquely created using stencil techniques
Dimensions 1790mm x-920mm
This artwork includes stylistic elements taken from vintage industrial poster and advertising design, and side-show/circus banners. A celebration of these magnificent mammals of the ocean. These works reflect our connection to the whales and the ways they feature in our history, ancestry, cosmology, myths and legends.
I have used te reo Māori to locate the banners specifically to NZ, and universal elements like the sun and stars to evoke the interconnectedness of all things in our cosmos.
Display options are flexible: hang directly on your wall with the two eyelets or using small tacks.
Shipped rolled in a tube, Colour may vary slightly.
