Artist Statement: Anna Leyland’s practice explores The Beauty of Balance through a refined interplay of contrast, symmetry, and radiant, metallic hues. Her work brings together opposing elements ~ masculine and feminine energies, organic forms and abstraction, simplicity and complexity ~ into a harmonious visual dialogue.

Through meticulous masking techniques and layered geometric patterns, Leyland creates dynamic symmetry that feels both structured and fluid. Repetition and precision guide the eye, while subtle variations introduce movement and depth.

The use of metallic and luminous pigments introduces a shifting quality of light, enhancing the lustre of radiant hues. As light interacts with the surface, the works subtly transform, revealing new dimensions and depth. This interplay reinforces the idea that balance is not fixed, but responsive ~ changing with perspective, environment, and time.

In Leyland’s work, symmetry becomes more than a visual device; it is a philosophy. Through intentional practice and refined technique, she captures the quiet power of equilibrium ~ where contrast, light, and form coexist in a state of considered beauty.
