Artist Statement: Changing light informs this body of work, reflecting the fragile balance of beauty in our coastal environments. Calm and serene conditions can quickly shift to dark and stormy, with a single day revealing a kaleidoscope of change—shifting, reflective, and immersive.
These works capture the movement of light across imagined environments. Together, they create a visual experience that is both structured and expressive, grounded yet radiant.
Hamish is an award-winning printmaker and painter based in Kāpiti, New Zealand. He returned home to Aotearoa NZ in 2021, after 14 years living in London. Hamish’s repertoire spans conceptual abstracts to figurative landscapes and seascapes, with a deep love of nature and his surroundings anchoring his creative vision.
Through painting, printmaking, mixed media, and digital manipulation, he skilfully blends traditional and modern techniques to craft works that offer fresh perspectives and evoke the natural world.
Hamish has exhibited in galleries around the world. His art is held in public collections (Te Papa Museum of New Zealand), and private collections internationally including the UK, Europe, USA, South Africa, and Australasia.
