Collection: Sarah Albisser
Sarah is interested in the discipline of simplicity. Over the past two years she has been exploring a more minimal, surreal style as an extension of her other work. What she has realised is that it is easier to fill a space than to leave it empty, but both spaces are equally important and must be balanced carefully. By stripping away the unnecessary, presenting a scenario in a simple manner she can give the audience space and a greater freedom to create their own story.
Born in Switzerland 1976 Sarah was strongly influenced by her father, an architect and abstract artist. But also her background as a contemporary dancer and choreographer has had a powerful influence on both her life and her art. She is fascinated by movement and self-expression, which over the past decade has resulted in a collection of striking black and white portraits of female characters.
After finishing her career as a dancer she went back to study and received a certificate in art from Farbmuehle in Lucerne. She then immigrated to New Zealand in 2007 where she continued to develop her style and art practice.
Devoting herself to a unifying theme for so many years has enabled her to explore and experiment with various techniques and materials, including pens, acrylic, perspex and thread. Her art captures form, feeling, mental states and captures moments in time.
Sarah has had exhibitions around New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland and Los Angeles. Her artworks are held in private collections around the world.
