Jo Priest

Jo Priest is a designer and illustrator that loves living on the coast of Wellington. She has a background in TV and film editing, but after taking a break to raise her four children, retrained as a graphic designer. Jo graduated from Whitireia Polytechic in 2018 with a degree in design. Her series of illustrations of the Wellington coast began as her graduating project. Jo is inspired by the beauty and diversity of the Wellington coastline and is drawn to depict the native birds and plants that live there. Her illustrations show the locations through a conservation lens where the birds and marine life are the focus.

I love using vibrant colours, textures and patterns in my work. I develop patterns inspired by the location, and the patterns contain plants, objects or animals that are found in that location.
