Susan Mouat

Susan Mouat comes from England where she trained as a diamond mounter and a gemmologist. She worked for top jewellery designers in London and Switzerland before coming to New Zealand. Susan taught jewellery at the Open Polytechnic of NZ before setting up the Jewellery Arts Studio in Wellington in 1997 where she designs and makes her own jewellery.

I am inspired by New Zealand’s scenery and native plants. I make my jewellery with polished and textured surfaces. The contrast of surface finishes reminds me of flashes of light glimpsed between the branches of the New Zealand bush. The contrast of light and shade. My jewellery is made to be noticed and compliment the wearer.
