Paradise Revisited I
Original Painting by Jody Hope Gibbons
Mixed media with wooden frame
23cm x 23cm
Jody Hope Gibbons is a contemporary New Zealand painter with works held in private collections here and throughout the world. She paints full-time in her Matakana studio overlooking native bush and lush green paddocks plus the ever-changing views of Sandspit harbour. The current body of works explores the materiality of paint - it pushes the boundaries of traditional painting practice and techniques. It exploits the use of stains, inks, leaf and varnish. Layers of paint are revealing yet concealing the imagery and the process of reducing and paring back is integral in the making. Ethereal dream-scape's suggest the passing into another space and place. Some of the mark of man/the painter is present.
